Our oral surgery procedures

There are a number of reasons why you may need oral surgery. At Ash Villa Dental, we provide the following treatments.

Removal of wisdom teeth
Sometimes, wisdom teeth need to be removed due to lack of space, to improve your oral health or eliminate pain or infection. Wisdom tooth removal is one of the most common oral surgical procedures, and performed regularly.

Removal of impacted teeth
Impacted teeth can cause issues for your overall oral health and it is often best to have them removed. A tooth that has impacted or failed to develop properly can lead to further issues along the line. We can help with tailored treatment.

Complex tooth extractions
If you have a tooth that has broken and become impacted, or has failed to grow correctly, we can surgically remove it. We use local anaesthetic to numb the affected area before making a small incision in your gum and carefully extracting your tooth.

Apicectomies
An apicectomy is a specialised treatment to remove the tip of the root of the tooth, known as the apex. It is used to eliminate infection or assist in successful root canal treatment. We numb the affected area and cut the tip of the tooth root back before sealing it and stitching the gum back into place.

Frequently asked questions
Is oral surgery painful?

We use local anaesthetic to minimise your discomfort during your oral surgery, but you will still be able to feel some pressure. Oral surgery is invasive, so it is normal to experience soreness and swelling for the first few days after your treatment. We will give you some advice on how to manage this with over-the-counter painkillers.

What do I need to do after oral surgery?

After oral surgery, you will need to take a couple of days to rest and recover. We will give you some detailed aftercare advice tailored to your particular case, including pain relief and when you can return to your normal daily activities.

Can you help me if I am feeling nervous about oral surgery?

If you are feeling nervous about the prospect of oral surgery, please let us know. We will do all we can to help you feel more comfortable and at ease in our care, including discussing your treatment in as much or little detail as you prefer. We also welcome you to bring headphones to listen to music if this helps you. We also offer IV sedation for particularly anxious patients.
