It goes without saying that the dental industry has changed a lot in the last few years, particularly since Covid-19, with NHS waiting lists at an all time high. So why not consider a private dentist? For as little as £22.49 per month our Denplan Dental Plan covers a dental exam twice a year, all clinical x-rays, 2 hygiene appointments (30 minutes each), oral cancer screening, discounted treatment (if required) and worldwide emergency cover.
A £60 initial consultation (which includes x-rays) is required by all new patients and lasts between 30-40 minutes.
Most patients either telephone the practice or use our online booking system which is accessed through our website. Which ever method you prefer, we will take your details and confirm a date and time and email confirmation to you, including further details about the dental practice in Sale and what other services we offer – Invisalign, Composite Bonding, Root Canal Treatment, Implants and Facial Aesthetics.
We offer a warm and friendly family atmosphere to all our patients, whether it’s your first visit to Ash Villa in Sale, or you have been coming to us for over 20 years. We will check your medical history details are up to date and make sure you are comfortable whilst waiting for your appointment.
Your appointment will consist of extensive examination of your teeth and gums and also some x-rays will also be taken. We are a digital practice so the x-rays will be displayed on a large screen and the findings will be explained to you. If any treatment is required it will be discussed with you by the Dentist and our Treatment Coordinator.
Tooth decay
One of the most common dental problems that people suffer from is tooth decay, which for anyone who has had decay will know just how uncomfortable a toothache can be. Without intervention tooth decay will progress and even the tiniest hole will very likely get bigger over time. It is important to detect tooth decay as early as possible therefore attending checkups every 6 months is an important preventative approach. The aim is to stop patients developing painful toothache and cavities that may cause the tooth to need extraction, when early detection could prevent extraction and the tooth could be restored with a straightforward tooth filling.
Gum Disease
Gum disease, although relatively common, is another progressive problem that benefits from being checked at regular intervals. Regular brushing and flossing can resolve the problem, however the earlier it is treated, the better the outcome.
Gingivitis (Earlier stage gum disease) affects the soft tissue of the gums only. It can be uncomfortable causing inflamed and painful gums, bleeding of the gums when brushing and also bad breath. Improving your oral care regime at home and visiting the hygienist at regular intervals can resolve the issue.
If gingivitis is left to progress, it can start to affect other nearby structures including the roots of the teeth and even the supportive bone which holds them in place. When this happens, not only are the previously mentioned symptoms likely to appear but, as the bone deteriorates, the teeth may become loose and sometimes fall out.
This stage of gum disease is known as periodontitis and may require a highly invasive root scale treatment to try and prevent tooth loss. Seeing a dental hygienist as well as your dentist every six months to have your gum health checked is highly recommended and forms part of the Denplan monthly payment plan that we offer.
Oral cancer
One of the most important checks that your dentist carries out, is for any signs of oral cancer. The dentist will look for any issues with the soft tissues of your mouth such as the tongue or cheeks. Symptoms such as lesions, lumps and persistent mouth ulcers can be caused by a number of things. For example, a dentist may be able to see that a graze on the tongue has been caused by a rough edge on a tooth which can easily be addressed. If we are concerned about anything we have found during your examination, we will ill refer you for further investigation. Early detection and treatment of mouth cancer will give a much better outcome than if it is left undetected.
