A gummy smile is often caused by hyperactive muscles in the upper lip. When you smile, these muscles pull the lip upward more than necessary, exposing the gum tissue underneath.
Botox® (Botulinum Toxin) works by temporarily relaxing these specific muscles. By injecting a small, precise amount into the area between your nose and upper lip, we reduce the elevation of the lip.

We know that the thought of needles and the dentist can make some people nervous, but we’ve designed the process to be as comfortable and clinical as possible right here in our Sale clinic.
We’d love to help you feel proud of your smile again. If you are bothered by the amount of gum showing when you smile, you can do something about it. Our team of skilled professionals is here to help you. Contact us today to schedule your consultation, and we can chat through your options.

A gummy smile is often simply the result of strong muscles in the upper lip pulling it too high when you laugh or smile. Botox® is a muscle-relaxing treatment that, when injected in very small, precise amounts, tells those specific muscles to relax. This allows your upper lip to rest at a lower position, beautifully framing your teeth and showing less gum without changing your overall facial expression.
While Botox® is a fantastic solution for many, it depends on what is causing your gummy smile. It works best for those whose smiles are muscle driven. If your gummy smile is caused by the shape of your jaw or the way your teeth emerged, our Sale dental team might suggest alternative treatments. During your consultation, we’ll check your medical history and smile anatomy to ensure this is the safest and most effective path for you.
Most patients enjoy their results for about three to four months. Because Botox® is naturally broken down by your body over time, the muscle will gradually regain its strength, and your lip will return to its original position. To maintain your new look, we usually recommend a quick top-up appointment three or four times a year. Many of our regular patients find that their results start to last slightly longer after a few consistent treatments.
Yes, your smile will still look natural. The goal isn’t to freeze your face, but to create a subtle, sophisticated balance. Because we use a conservative amount of Botox® and target very specific points, you will still be able to speak, eat, and smile naturally; it’s just that your lip won’t travel as high as it did before. People will notice you look great, but they likely won’t be able to pin down exactly why!
